Amazingly simple home remedies

I saw these on a blog and automatically thought of Gary and all the good advice he gives.

  1. When choking on an ice cube, simply pour a cup of boiling water down your throat. Presto! The blockage will instantly remove itself.
  2. Avoid cutting yourself slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold while you chop.
  3. Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat by using the sink.
  4. To treat high blood pressure: simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins. Remember to use a timer.
  5. A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.
  6. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, then you will be afraid to cough.
  7. You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. ...If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. - If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
  8. Remember: Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

Pinewood Madness

Ah, the sweet smell of pine. Jett recently raced his first pinewood derby car on a crazy cool track. The dude with the track seriously had way too much time on his hands and must have been a geeky engineer/scientist type. The track had light sensors that measured the time in thousandths of a second. The sensors were hooked up to his laptop and scaled the time measurements to the speed of the car if it were the size of an actual car. I was proud of Jett because he consistently exceeded 200 mph, way faster than my car. Having said that, it is a pain in the butt to build a car that doesn't lose if you procrastinate until the night before.

Jett completely chose the car design. I got all excited about building a sweet car with fins and those knife things that come out of the wheels like on Spy Hunter, but Jett wanted a car that looked like a pinewood derby car. Like the picture on the box. He drew on the side of the car exactly where I was supposed to cut. And the design was a wedge. (See below). It reminds me of my first car. Almost exactly. Except I think mine was a nice lime green with yellow stripes.

Jett did well for his first derby and placed 16th out of 37. I was just glad he wasn't 37th out of 37. This was his moment of triumph.

Although I'm sure this is how he was picturing his moment of triumph.

Pay close attention to Wynn. He is flashing some sort of gang sign I am sure of it. He is pretty bad. :-) We had lots of fun visiting our friends husband at his awsome job! He even slid down the pole.....(I am going to get one of those for sure) ;-P
It was a great day, we went to applebees for lunch, (my friend Deb has four kids of her own) And people kept asking us if we were a daycare.

sheet music needed

HI guys I didn't know how else to do this so I am just going to post this and hope some one knows what I am talking about. I have been looking for some Sheet music from Wanda Lindstrom called "The Sacrifice" I love this music and have only half of it. I called every stinkin distributor around and they say it is out of print. So basically I am screwed unless there is someone that already has a copy. If you know anyone that might have a copy or have one yourself would you let me know. Thanks again!

the twilight series-thumbs down!

Okay so I have just read the twilight books that everyone is talking about. It wasn't all that great. I was really disappointed with the very typical female character. 100 pound damsel in distress, who couldn't seem to do much on her own more times than not, yet could take on a vicious vampire??? I hated that pretty much Edward was nothing more but a pretty face, I kept waiting for something of his character to jump out at me, it never did. I just felt it was missing a lot of depth. Don't worry about reading it, just watch the movie when it comes out, unlike most other books, you won't miss a thing.

major surgery needed

I recently twisted my knee and have been trying to stay off it, as much as I can, butt still daily chores call soI have been down in the basement folding laundry all day and Rook and Cannon have been my errand boys. They have been getting their own treats and drinks and doing it all on their own. Rook was at the top of the stairs and said, "Mom, I have a bumb sore."
"What is the matter with your bumb?" I asked. He looked around at his butt the best he could and started to whine. "It hurts mom, I think I cracked it."
So I looked at it and said "You are right it is split right in half, butt I don't think that is what hurts...I think we just need to wipe your bootie.." Much to his reliefe he laughed and then said, "Yea, I didn't find any wipes," then he got really quiet. Then Cannon who I wasn't sure was listening because he was playing his gameboy said.."Rook I will get the glue to fix your bootie."

the canterings of a wild man

I have been busy doing hair all day long. Rook and Cannon stay in the basement in the room next to me the entire time. I was listening to their conversation and it went something like this:
Rook: Hi son I am back from work.
Cannon: Hi Dad, guess what, my brother has been very bad.
Rook: Okay tell mom to spank him.
Cannon: She did.
Rook: No I said tell MOM to spank him so he cries.
Cannon: She did and she did it with a lite saber so his legs got all cut off.
Rook: Dang it! Mom don't chop off his legs or you will get me so mad.
Cannon: Dad, are you Darth Vader?
Rook: Yes and I am your father.

It makes me laugh how fast they transition from reality to make believe.

Then other day we were picking up the kids from School and we were waiting in the van. Rook told me that he needed to go potty. I told him that he would have to hold it for a few minutes and he wanted to just pee outside. I told him that he couldn't because there were too many people around. He started to growl and said "Dang it all you people make me so mad I am going to pee in my pants!" So we peed in a can...thank goodness for diet Pepsi.

Our Holidays

After a verbal tongue lashing and reprimand from you know who, I have been committed to update the blog. I guess I better update things chronologically.

Before we visited Idaho and Utah for Christmas and New Years, our ward had a Christmas dinner and Nativity reenactment by our primary. And Teri, the primary president, directed the program. It went well and the primary kids did a wonderful job of putting on a touching program. Jett was able to be Joseph. Of course he was Joseph 007. Even though Joseph 007 and Mary were technically married at that point in time, Joseph 007 still felt he had to prove himself to Mary in his protecting, hunting, and gathering skills. So he pulled out his semi-automatic finger pistol - he just saw a sheep. This picture is just the moment Joseph 007 saw that pesky BFG (Bethlehem Fish & Game) agent, and he realized he didn't have a nonresident hunting license. He was from Nazareth and not Bethlehem. Sorry Mary. Maybe next time.

Wynn was the "wise man with sweet mountain boots," which made it easier to cross the Himilayas on his trek. His other friends, the wise man named "Run Rhymez" (also a west coast rapper) and Horace de Vil (husband of Cruella de Vil, who always gave her husband clothing and hats accentuated with Dalmation fur), also showed up to give presents.

This was the grand finale. Everybody complimented Teri on the great job she did.

We took our biennial trip to Idaho for Christmas. The roads were terrible. We were stranded in Rawlins, Wyoming for a few hours because of roads like this. I mostly followed the car in front of me and hoped the driver knew where the road was. The wind was really bad and we fought gusts greater than 60 mph. Wyoming in the winter is a great place to be from. Far from.

I included this picture because of the look on Chris' face. I'm sure Chris is thinking, "Dave, did you just do a bare finger nose wipe on Quinn? Could you be sure to sanitize your hands before doing anything else?" Not that Chris is a clean-freak, but it seems that multiple people were sick at any one time during that week.

My Grandpa Pidcock keeping a safe distance from boys engaged in horseplay.

A picture of all the Keller cousins except Crew, who was down for a nap. Notice my Grandma telling Grandpa, who pretends to be grumpy, to get in the picture. The next picture shows who won.

A picture with Grandma and Grandpa Keller and grandkids.

We visited the Stapletons in Utah. They have twins about the age of Crew. We decided to save water and put them in the bathtub at the same time.

Christmas songs

We go to the church gym most mornings to work out. One morning Rook and Cannon were singing up a storm. They sang the abc song, Jingle bells, I am a child of God and others. Finally we pulled up to the church and Cannon said, "Mom, I know what a kind and dear has," (he had just finished singing I am a child of God). I said, "really? What?" and Cannon said, "a shiny red nose."
Rook sings in the bathroom, in the car, in the shower...the kid just sings everywhere he goes. He was singing all the Christmas songs that he knew, When I said, won't you be so sad when Christmas is over? He asked why does Christmas get over and I said, Christmas is only celebrated in December and it will be January soon. Rook's face was very solemn and he said with tears in his eyes..Did Janwerary kill Jesus?

Ice Storm

One week ago we had a nice ice storm hit Omaha and the plains. The first picture is part of the aftermath. The picture doesn't do justice, but we had about one third inch of ice over everything. We couldn't hardly take the garbage out without slipping everywhere.

As we were coming in, Rook saw his bike and said, "Ohhhh! My buddy is sooooo chilly!"

Family Home Evening

Monday night is always our family home evening night dedicated to spending quality time together as a family. And I think these next two pictures are the epitome of some serious quality time that two sons have with their dad. As their dad says, nothing like a pillow to the side of the head. Plus, dad has a good arm, a very strong arm with rippling muscles. See how fast the pillow is going?

One cool thing about this picture is that Cannon was standing with Wynn and daring their dad to huck a "plasma grenade" at them. They claimed their Jedi powers would protect them. Dad used the age old trick of "hey, what's that?" and then just what they wanted, dad fired a plasma grenade at them. I guess Cannon's Jedi powers warned him to duck, but Wynn's Jedi powers were no match for dad's mind tricks and that plasma grenade took him out. Of course, the two Jedis recovered quickly enough.

deep thoughts

On Friday nights we trade baby-sitting with some really good friends. One Friday night the kids were with some friends that had a fish tank. One of the Fish was going to have babies. My friend said to Cannon, Look, this fish is going to have babies. She said that Cannon got very quiet and looked into the tank for a while and said, "Laurel, where is the hospital?"

Rook is one of our most picky eaters. He won't eat muffins, he won't eat nuts, he won't eat most things that we all like and he likes too. (once he has decided he doesn't want to eat it, he is dead set that he HATES it and it tastes like garbage.) Well the other day I went and got a rotisserie chicken, took the legs off, and gave one to Wynn and one to Cannon. Rook wanted one and I told him there were only two and he could have something else. I took a piece of breast meat and put it on his plate and he looked at it and said he hated it. I said he had to take a bite. He took a bite of it and spit it out and said, "MOM! I hate it!!! It is got poisen and I don't like to die!"

Trunk-or-Treat Practice

Rook has decided who he will be for Halloween. Darth Maul. He has been practicing "the look" minus the Sith tattoos that cover Darth Maul's body. He even tried it out at the ward trunk-or-treat and was very convincing. Do you see any similarities?

Oh, and Wynn in the background was thinking this: "Holy crap, I think I just saw Darth Maul! Rook, did you see him? You know, the same Maul that was kidnapped from his Jedi training by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious at an early age. I hope he doesn't get loose in our house! Nothing worse than a loose Sith lord in the house eating all the Halloween candy and hogging the xBox."
